At Further Afield, we believe every home is an unfolding story. As a mother-daughter team based in Fairfield County, we breathe new life into antique and period homes with a focus on architectural integrity and timeless design to ensure that these distinctive homes continue their stories for future generations.
Our approach honors the inherent character of each home while creating spaces that reflect modern living. A deep understanding of historic properties, particularly those threading through New England’s storied neighborhoods, and a sensitivity to architectural integrity, guide our renovation process. Whether working on a 200 year-old colonial or reimagining a mid-century space, we believe in creating environments that are grounded in their past and enhanced for the future.
Further Afield works directly with homeowners to continue the stories of their own unique homes. Our collaborative approach ensures that each client realizes their personal vision while creating a timeless and enduring design. Further Afield also acquires and renovates distinctive period homes, offering them for sale upon completion.
Further Afield is led by mother-daughter team Elayne Landau and Rachel Landau Fisher, who bring a unique combination of real estate expertise, construction management experience, and design sensibility to the thoughtful renovation of historic homes. Further Afield offers a full-service, hands-on partnership — managing each project from architectural planning through final styling — with a shared commitment to craftsmanship, heritage, and enduring design.
Elayne Landau draws on over 30 years of experience as a real estate attorney, broker and developer. Her deep understanding of property acquisition and development, combined with a passion for historic preservation, allow her to see both the architectural potential and inherent value in every home. Elayne is thrilled to help preserve the charm and character of the streets and neighborhoods she calls home in Westport and throughout Fairfield County.
Rachel Landau Fisher brings a strong background in project management and an intuitive approach to interior design. After a decade working in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors, Rachel returned to her creative roots, applying her organizational expertise and fresh design perspective to renovating and furnishing homes. She is passionate about creating interiors that respect a home’s history while enhancing the way people live today.
“Rachel is not only one of the most creative professional designers and project managers we’ve worked with, but she also approaches everything with a smile and incredible efficiency, consistently meeting every deadline. She has helped immensely with the design aesthetic, bringing fresh, thoughtful ideas that elevated the overall vision. Additionally, she sourced materials and vendors we weren’t previously aware of, which helped improve the overall project budget. We highly recommend Rachel without reservation and look forward to working with her again in the future.”
“Working with Rachel was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. Rachel took the time to understand our vision and transformed our space beyond our expectations. Her keen eye for design and attention to detail were evident in every aspect of our project. Rachel also collaborated seamlessly with our contractor, making adjustments as needed and keeping the project on schedule. As a result, the project was completed on time and within budget— a testament to her professionalism and expertise. Our home now feels refreshed and uniquely ours, and we couldn't be happier with the results. We highly recommend Rachel to anyone seeking top-notch interior design services.”
